LaLiga Santander season 2019/20
Get ready for the show … It is the start for one of the best leagues in the world: the Spanish First Division. On Friday, August 16, LaLiga Santander begins.
LaLiga Santander – one of the best leagues in the world
The First Division of the Spanish league has always been considered one of the best, or perhaps the best soccer league in the world. However, for a few years, and especially since the previous season, the Premier League has made it very difficult. 2018/19 Europa League Final: Chelsea vs. Arsenal.
2018/19 Champions League Final: Liverpool-Tottenham. Four English teams in the two most prestigious tournaments are obviously big words.
As for the Spanish teams, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid both fell in eighths in the Champions League. On the other hand, Barcelona had a 3-0 in their favor in the semifinals but were defeated by a great Liverpool in Anfield, 0-4. Undoubtedly a great confrontation, with many goals and a lot of soccer show. Obviously, the Spaniards (and foreigners) in LaLiga Santander will have to put the batteries this season to keep up with the English …
The First Division last season
FC Barcelona were proclaimed champions of LaLiga Santander 2018/19. In fact, Barça have won four of the last five seasons. Actually, what happened in Barcelona last season was a walk. Normally it is a fight between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona but Madrid threw in the towel at the beginning and were never rivals to a very regular Barça throughout the season. Unquestionably led by its great star Lionel Messi.
The only team that kept the emotion somewhat was Atlético Madrid of Cholo Simeone. Let’s see if any other team can fight for LaLiga Santander this year! Place your bet: Who do you think will win the First Division this 2019/20 season?

Let the football show begin
LaLiga Santander of 2019/2020 starts with an exciting Athletic Club de Bilbao – FC Barcelona this Friday (August 16). Without a doubt, the current champion will have a complicated game in an always difficult field: the New San Mamés. A real minefield! The rest of the matches of the first day of the Spanish league are:
- Alavés – Levante
- Espanyol – Sevilla FC
- Real Betis – Valladolid
- Villareal – Granada
- Atlético Madrid – Getafe
- Valencia CF – Real Sociedad
- Leganés – Osasuna
- Celta de Vigo – Real Madrid CF
- Mallorca – Eibar

Favorites to win LaLiga Santander this season
Unfortunately, the Spanish First Division is usually a predictable thing and a thing of two: FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF. They have won 14 of the last 15 titles. And it is that the budgets of the teams of the Spanish league are very designated and consequently, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are usually much higher in such a long tournament with 38 games.
Anyway, Atlético Madrid of the tireless Cholo Simeone has signed very well this summer and has an interesting team. Can they fight for the LaLiga Santander title this year? Other greats are Valencia CF and Sevilla FC but honestly, this year I don’t see them near the fight for the championship.
Silly season – the transfer market
We already know that summers are always crazy about sales, purchases and transfers. And this year has not been different. The Premier League in England has already closed the market but in Spain it is moved until Monday 2 of September at 23:59, which is when the transfer market of LaLiga Santander closes. But today, we already have many sales made. Some of the most popular are:
- Eden Hazard – from Chelsea to Real Madrid for 100 million euros
- João Félix – from Benfica to Atlético Madrid for 127 million euros
- Antoine Griezmann – from Atlético Madrid to FC Barcelona for 120 million euros
- Frenkie De Jong – from Ajax to Fc Barcelona for 75 million euros
- Luka Jović – from Eintrach from Frankfurt to Real Madrid for 60 million euros
- Rodrigo Moreno – from Valencia to Atlético Madrid for 60 million euros
These transfers are already confirmed but there will be many more during the month of August. The Neymar (PSG) theme is a soap opera that never ends. The same goes for Paul Pogba (Manchester United) and Eriksen (Tottenham).
On the other hand, we also have sales abroad and the most striking are, for example:
- Rodri – from Atlético Madrid to Manchester City
- Giovanni Lo Celso – from Real Betis to Tottenham
- Mateo Kovačić – from Real Madrid to Chelsea
- Wissam Ben Yedder – from Sevilla FC to Monaco
Similarly, there are many computer fringes in terms of sales. The hottest potato is Gareth Bale at Real Madrid. He has had his plus and minus with Zidane without a doubt but his salary complicates the thing a lot. And what will happen to Couthino, Iván Rakitic, James Rodríguez …?

Our forecast for LaLiga Santander 2019/20
Which team will win the First Division in Spain this season? The current champion is FC Barcelona. The newly promoted are: Granada, Mallorca and Osasuna.
Normally LaLiga Santander is a fight of two – Real Madrid and Barça – but I’m going to take a risk this year and bet on a third team: Atlético Madrid.
First, because I really like Cholo Simeone as a coach and secondly, they have signed very well.
The Portuguese João Félix has the whole look of becoming a super star. It is true that they have sold Antoine Griezmann to his worst rival, FC Barcelona, and Rodrigo to Manchester City, but they have reinforced the team with many other players, including Rodrigo Moreno of Valencia.
If Messi does not work, Barça is lost. And the injured half season begins …
We think that LaLiga Santander can end up like this in 2019/2020:
- Atlético Madrid
- FC Barcelona
- Real Madrid CF
- Sevilla FC
- Real Sociedad
- Athletic Club
- Valencia
- Real Betis
- Getafe
- Espanyol
- Lift
- Celtic of Vigo
- Villareal
- Eibar
- Alavés
- Leganés
- Osasuna
- Mallorca
- Valladolid
- Granada
The emotion returns, LaLiga Santander returns!
