The idea of creating a national league in Spain was born in a club called Arenas Club de Getxo, in the Basque Country, in 1927. This is what we know today as the First Division of Spain or LaLiga1. Or for sponsorship reasons, such as LaLiga Santander, with the largest bank in the world as a sponsor. After two years of planning, the league became a reality and was played during a season with 10 teams. Barcelona was the first team to claim the trophy as Spanish Champions.
Many famous players in La Liga Santander
In this football league we find magical players, really galactic stars. For the most part they are stars not only in Spain but also worldwide. The first really famous player at a global scale was Alfredo Di Stéfano, who played for Real Madrid in the 50s. They are football players who have played many games in LaLiga and scored a a massive amount of goals.
We are talking stars like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raúl and together they have scored a huge amount of goals. CR7 scored 311 goals at Real Madrid, Raúl 323 and Messi has a chilling 415 at FC Barcelona, and continues to score non-stop … Lionel Messi scored his 400th goal at LaLiga Santander on January 13, 2019, for his team FC Barcelona against Eibar in the Camp Nou.
Messi is the first LaLiga Santander player to reach 400 goals. As a matter of fact the statistics show that Cristiano Ronaldo is not far behind with his 311 goals at Real Madrid but he has already left LaLiga Santander. Of course, he continues to score in Juventus of Turin.
The structure of the Spanish League
There are 20 teams that play in the First Division of Spain. Below you will see what teams are playing this season in LaLiga Santander. All these teams play two games against their rivals, one at home and one away. In total, 38 games are played during a LaLiga Santander season.
A win gives 3 points and a 1 point for a draw. When a team loses, it receives zero points. As we have said, a team plays its rivals twice during the current season: one at home or another in the opponent’s field. When all games have been played during the 38 rounds, the champion will be crowned. LaLiga Santander is played from the beginning of September until the end of May each season.
The top three get a ticket to UEFA Champions League
The top three of the table qualify directly for the Champions League. The fourth classified has to play a classifying round to enter the group stage of this famous competition. The fifth in the league table will play in the play-off round of the next UEFA Europa League and, the sixth, in the third round of the same continental competition. The last three teams of LaLiga Santander will be relegated and descend to the Spanish Second Division, LaLiga 1 | 2 | 3.
From the Second Division, three teams ascend to La Liga Santander: the top two of the league table and then and a third team which has to go through a difficult qualifying system which is played among the teams that have finished in places three to six in the Second Division.
Of course, it has much more prestige (and gives more money …) to play in LaLiga Santander than in the Spanish Second Division, LaLiga 1 | 2 | 3. Therefore there is always a great fight between the teams in the First División not to descend to Second Division. But in the end, almost all the teams that are considered “classical top teams” have gone down to Second Division at some point during the years.
But there are three Spanish teams that never descended. The teams that never went down since LaLiga was created are Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

La Liga bets and attractive odds
LaLiga Santander is undoubtedly interesting in all aspects for large bookmakers. As a player / bettor you can find endless odds, matches, types of sport bets and betting options at the bookmakers. When you want to bet on LaLiga Santander, you can really find lots of news and massive amount of information. Another reason to make bets in the Spanish League is the fact that it is one of the best football leagues in the world, without a doubt.
At the betting sites you will find information such as the form status of the teams balanced against which players are injured and a lot of statistics. For example about previous clashes between the same teams, the last games played, results and much more. If you have placed sport bets with this team before, you may have notes on how you thought when you were going to bet that time. When it comes to very popular football matches, you have to look for more attractive alternatives and odds.
Look for interesting bets
The Over / Under option, with the amount of goals they will score, can be a good idea. For example, More than 2.5 goals or Less than 2.5 goals. You can make this bet when you think they are going to score many or few goals in a match, or by the time of first or second part only. Maybe the final result also has attractive odds or that your team will win even if the opponent scores one or several goals.
Study the different sports bets and the odds a little more and you will see. Look at the line up of the teams because maybe there are important injuries or players missing, like the big star of the team. Some players are really important for a particular team and for that reason a bet like that can pay off, if a particular player has shown good form lately and is on a scoring streak.
On our website you can also find improved odds or increased odds. In summary, you may want to use these odds if they match your thoughts about betting. So stay tuned to find improved odds or increased odds – or other changes that may affect the match – before the start of the game.
Odds for LaLiga
La Liga, or La Liga Santander, is a well-known name and is without a doubt something you associate with Spain as a country. To summarize, it is one of the best football leagues in the world, if not the best. To clarify, there are two divisions: the first is La Liga, or the First Division. Or also LaLiga Santander. The Second Division goes under the name of LaLiga 1 | 2 | 3. Here we call it only LaLiga, to make things easier.

Everyone wants to be in LaLiga Santander, in First Division, but every year three teams descend to Second Division, LaLiga 1 | 2 | 3. It is true that there are also three teams that ascend to the First Division.
