The teams in NFL
The NFL is divided into two conferences, the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). The league has 32 teams and they are equally divided between the conferences. Each conference is divided into four divisions; East division, North division, South division and West division.

NFL-säsongen
Den ordinarie säsongen spelas över 17 veckor från september till december. Varje lag spelar 16 matcher, en varje vecka och har en veckas uppehåll per säsong. I slutspelet finns det 7 lag från varje konferens, 4 divisionsvinnare och 3 wildcards.
Slutspelet leder upp till finalen i Super Bowl som spelas den första söndagen i februari varje år. I slutspelet är konferenserna alltid separerade så att de bästa lagen i varje konferens kommer mötas i Super Bowl.
NFLs historia
NFL grundades 1920 som American Professional Football Association (APFA). 1922 döptes ligan till National Football League. Under de första 13 åren utsågs ligavinnaren utifrån säsongstabellen. 1933 infördes slutspelssystemet. Mellan 1933-66 kallades finalen NFL Championship Game.
1966 slogs NFL ihop med American Football League (AFL). Fusionen innebar att Super Bowl föddes och hölls för första gången 1967.
