“The Mauler” returns to UFC

After the loss to Anthony “Lion Heart” Smith in the Globe Arena a year ago, Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson announced that he would end his career as a professional MMA fighter.

But now The Mauler seems to have come to second thoughts. Yesterday, the 33-year-old fighter announced that he is making a comeback in the UFC. On July 25, he meets ex-champion Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi in front of empty stands due to the corona pandemic. We bet he is excited to get back after his title loss in 2019.

New weight class

Ahead of the comeback, The Mauler will also change weight class. He has previously been in the light heavyweight class but will now compete in heavyweight. He has always seen himself as a “big light heavyweight” and the new weight class facilitates him in preparation before the match better. However, remains to be seen how long he stays in the heavyweight class and UFC.

At the moment the aim does not seem to be set on any title matches. Right now, the focus is on getting comfortable in the new weight class and taking one match at a time.
