Scandinavian Invitation gets new format 2020

Already next year, the Scandinavian Invitation golf competition will be given a new format. The competition, played at Bro Hof on June 11-14, 2020, will be the first where both male and female golf stars are playing against each other.

Hosts for the event are Annika Sörenstam and Henrik Stenson who have also been driving the change forward. The competition is also given a new name, Scandinavian Mixed, and wants to emphasize that golf is for ALL.

Men against women in Scandinavian Invitation’s new format

After the 2019 edition of Scandinavian Invitation at Hills GC outside Gothenburg, it was clear that the competition was facing a change. It is now confirmed that the European Tour competition will change course to Bro Hof and that men and women will compete against each other in next year’s edition.

In the competition which has a prize amount of 1.5 million euros, 78 men will be placed against 78 women and will be sanctioned by the European Tour both for the ladies and men. Official ranking points will be at stake for both tours.

– Playing ladies and gentlemen in a combined competition is exciting for the fans in Sweden but also on the global arena where we continue to show that golf is for everyone, says Annika Sörenstam in a press release about Scandinavian Invitation’s new format.

When Annika met the men

In 2003, Annika Sörenstam played on the men’s PGA tour during the Bank of America Colonial. At that time Annika Sörenstam was unbeatable on the LPGA tour. Speculation about a meeting between Sörenstam, Tiger Woods and other players on the PGA Tour began to grow. Finally she was asked and answered yes.

Her participation caused much attention throughout the world as she wrote golf history. She was also met by a lot of criticism from, among others, the player Vijay Singh who did not think she belonged.

In the course of a long time golf has been a backward sport for old men. Now it is finally time for a change on a larger scale with the change of Scandinavian Invitation. We can’t help but look forward to an exciting competition next summer.

If you can’t wait until June we recommend a quick response on green with no less than Mr Green.
